Cauda equina syndrome and the neurological injuries that can result
affect a person’s daily life in hundreds of ways. It can be everything from going to the toilet on their own to getting
dressed on their own. Many of the people that have suffered kataquinus syndrome, they no longer have feeling in the bottom of their feet. They may not have
feeling in their legs and that can cause them to be a fall risk. It can make them more susceptible to injury. It can make
them more susceptible to injuring their foot or having infections. Many of our clients have to use a catheter to go to
the bathroom. Many of them have colostomy bags. Many of them, if not almost all of them, have suffered some
level of sexual dysfunction, which of course impacts not only the quality of their life, but also often their
relationships and um and their marriages. It affects their ability to engage with their children. It affects
their stamina. It affects in many people’s instances their ability ever be employed again. The injuries can be
catastrophic and they’re frequently lifelong. And often I don’t just focus on the injured person as they are today.
I think about how is this injury going to impact this person when they’re 50, 60, 70, 80 years old and well into the
future. Um it’s it’s a really catastrophic injury and it’s one that people really don’t appreciate how damaging it is until it’s actually
impacted either them or someone they love.

Portland, OR medical malpractice attorney Rhett Fraser talks about how cauda equina syndrome affects a person’s daily life.
