Columbia, SC personal injury attorney Graham Newman talks about the philosophy that guides his work and his scholarly work. He indicates that his central philosophy is simple: always do right by the client. For him, this principle carries several responsibilities. First and foremost, he prioritizes responsiveness. When clients call, his goal is to return the call by the end of the day. Even if much of the work on a case happens behind the scenes, prompt communication assures clients that they are being heard and that their concerns matter.
Doing right by the client also means working tirelessly on their behalf, but it is not limited to effort alone. It often requires candor—being upfront and honest when a case takes an unexpected turn. He emphasizes that part of effective representation is delivering the hard truths, ensuring that clients fully understand their situation. Ultimately, his objective in every matter is to achieve a meaningful result, whether that be securing just compensation or reaching another favorable resolution.
Beyond direct casework, he remains deeply engaged in professional development and the broader legal community. Within the last ten days alone, he has participated in three continuing legal education seminars—two at the South Carolina Bar Convention and one at the University of South Carolina School of Law. While preparing and presenting for such programs is time-consuming, he finds the experience rewarding. It allows him not only to share insights and contribute to the education of other lawyers but also to sharpen his own knowledge.
He also invests in the legal profession through writing and editing. For several years, he has served as an editor for the South Carolina Association for Justice bulletin, the trade publication for attorneys in the state. Though such work may not directly generate significant business, he values it as an academically enriching endeavor and an opportunity to foster stronger connections within the profession.
