What drives me as a lawyer, as a family law attorney is my desire to help people. I went to law school to be a much better lawyer than the divorce lawyer I had decades ago could ever possibly have been. I like to help people, not just the client, but especially the kids because the kids didn’t choose to get divorced. And they don’t have an attorney. It would be pretty awful circumstances if a child needed an attorney in a divorce, but they’re the ones who are really caught without help. So helping people through a really emotionally difficult time is something I enjoy doing.

My mentor for the first ten years when I was a baby lawyer is Bob Prince, Robert E. Prince. He had practiced family law for probably over 30 years before I became connected to him, and I believe he hired me because our ethics and our morals were very similar. He was a really good person. He would come in at the end of the day, usually as I was trying to leave, and sit down and just talk. He’d talk about people, and clients, and communication. Sometimes he actually talked about the law, but it was a lot about how we serve our clients in this very personal field of law. He was a gift.

I think I chose the right time to go to law school, because my background before becoming a lawyer was I was a full adult person. I had graduated from college. I had started and had been in a career for 15 years. I had married. I had divorced. I had bought and sold two pieces of real estate, and I’d even negotiated, been part of negotiations for a Union contract when I was employed in broadcast television. By the time I got to law school, I had had a lot of life experience that very few of my fellow students had, because they mostly went to law right out of undergraduate. I think I learned more in law school because I had lived more life before I got there.
