emails, Slacks, videos, social media. It is vitally important that the employee
preserve any written evidence of the harassment.
Make sure that if there are automatic uh deletions to turn those off. Take screenshots or use software to download
text messages so that you have them if litigation is needed. The other thing that is really important is before even
calling a lawyer, reach out to the HR department, your supervisor, your manager, and report it. And don’t just
report it by telephone. do it in writing because we want to know that you made an attempt to record and to seek help for
the harassment that you were experiencing. Allow the employer to do the right thing by punishing the harasser, stopping that bad behavior.
And if that doesn’t happen, then call a lawyer, call us, and we’ll do what we can to fix the situation for you.

Los Angeles, CA employment plaintiffs attorney Navid Yadegar shares his advice for someone who feels they are being sexually harassed at work. He advises employees experiencing sexual harassment to preserve any written or digital evidence, as harassment today often occurs through text messages, emails, Slack, videos, and social media. He stresses the importance of turning off automatic message deletion, taking screenshots, or using software to download text messages so that the evidence remains available if litigation becomes necessary. He also recommends reporting the harassment to the HR department, supervisor, or manager before contacting an attorney, and doing so in writing rather than only by telephone to create a record that the employee reported the conduct and sought assistance. He encourages employees to give their employer an opportunity to address the situation, discipline the harasser, and stop the inappropriate behavior, and if the employer fails to do so, he advises them to seek legal assistance to determine what options are available.
