So retaliation is if the employee engages in some conduct protected by the law and the employer punishes him for
that by for example firing him. So what are examples of activities that the employee can do that’s protected by law?
So, if the employee requests a medical leave because of some disability or if the employee complains about illegal
activity at the company or the employee complains about not getting his wages correctly, those are examples of
protected activities that the employee is entitled to do. And if the employer then fires him or otherwise punishes him
for engaging in that conduct, that’s retaliation and that’s illegal.

Los Angeles, CA employment plaintiffs attorney Navid Soleymani talks about employer retaliation. He explains that workplace retaliation occurs when an employee engages in conduct protected by law and the employer punishes the employee for doing so, such as by terminating their employment. He describes several examples of legally protected activities, including requesting medical leave because of a disability, reporting suspected illegal activity within the company, or raising concerns about being improperly paid. He notes that if an employer responds to these protected activities by firing the employee or taking other adverse actions against them, the conduct may constitute unlawful retaliation.
