Cauda quina is considered a surgical emergency because the patient is experiencing compression of their nerves
in their lumbar spine. The treatment for that is to have the patient undergo what’s called a decompression surgery.
Sometimes it’s a laminctomy. There’s other procedures like a dissectctomy that can be done. What has to happen is
a surgeon needs to go in and decompress the nerves so that they’re not being constricted. They’re not undergoing eskeeia.
And if a surgeon does not release those nerves from the impingement in a timely manner, those nerves can die and cause
neurological deficits which are permanent to the lower half of the person’s body.
