Morristown, NJ criminal defense lawyer Blair R. Zwillman tells the story of a memorable New Jersey sex crime case you handled. He explains that sex crime cases are inherently challenging. He recalls handling a case years ago involving a 21-year-old day camp counselor accused of molesting three- and four-year-old children during a two-month day camp program. At that time, such prosecutions were common and often relied on a developing body of science regarding the credibility of children and the suggestive questioning techniques used by investigators.
Fortunately, the case was assigned a fair judge and heard by an impartial jury. After several hours of deliberation, his client—the day camp counselor—was acquitted on at least 60 counts of what would be considered child molestation.
