As a lawyer, I’ve been a family law litigator for almost 25 years, in addition to litigating cases, I’ve been a guardian at Lighteman, a court-appointed special advocate, so I’ve done custody evaluations for the court. I’m a pro-ten family law commissioner, so when the regular commissioners are unavailable, I’ll sit on the bench, make decisions in contested cases on the family law motions calendar.

What I’m doing as the primary part of my practice now is mediation and arbitration. As a mediator, I help people reach agreements that resolve their cases and avoid the risk and expense of trials. As an arbitrator, I will decide issues in contested cases, which gives the parties the ability to maintain some privacy, and ensure that their case is resolved by an experienced family law practitioner, and not the judge that the court may assign to their case.

I’m a frequent presenter at Continuing Legal Education classes for lawyers. For 15 years, I was the editor of the Washington Lawyers Practice Manual Family Law Section, so, I drafted and edited the comprehensive guide to family law litigation for beginning attorneys in the state. I’ve published a couple of articles on family law topics in state journals, and I mentor younger attorneys at this time to help them be family law attorneys.

Seattle, WA family law attorney Michael Louden talks about his experience in the field of law and the scholarly lectures and writings he’s done.
