Philadelphia, PA immigration attorney Christopher M. Casazza discusses his experience with U-Visas and T-Visas. He explains that he has extensive experience with U visas, not only in preparing and litigating them with immigration authorities but also in teaching other attorneys about the process through continuing legal education seminars. He explains that U visas are a powerful tool in immigration law, designed for individuals who have been victims of crimes in the United States. To qualify, applicants must have reported the crime to law enforcement and cooperated with police or prosecutors in the investigation or prosecution.

He emphasizes that an arrest is not required in a U visa case. Simply reporting the crime and making oneself available to assist in the investigation is sufficient to move forward. Once a U visa is filed, applicants may eventually receive approval and later become eligible for a green card. He notes that U visas are particularly impactful because they can help individuals overcome many prior immigration difficulties.

He also has significant experience with T visas, which are designed for victims of human trafficking—whether labor trafficking or, unfortunately, sexual trafficking. Similar to U visas, T visa applicants must cooperate with law enforcement in the investigation of the trafficking to the extent required. A successful T visa can also lead to permanent residency if certain conditions are met, making it an essential form of protection and relief for vulnerable individuals.
