Taking a look at for example a US patent you can determine where that US patent has been filed around the world and you might learn that that US application or patent has been filed in numerous different foreign countries which alerts you to the fact that this patent is perceived to be of high value to its owner. It also tells you where it’s filed which is very informative in terms of getting a clue as to why the company that owns that patent, you know, what markets they think are important to them, and then you can speculate as to why they think those markets are important.
