00:04
well the first six years of my career
00:06
i worked as an insurance defense
00:07
attorney so in that role i
00:09
i represented individuals and businesses
00:13
uh who were being sued by individuals
00:15
who were injured as i was taking
00:16
depositions and in trial i found that i
00:19
had a lot of empathy and a lot of
00:20
sympathy for the injured
00:21
plaintiff who brought the lawsuit and it
00:24
became pretty clear to me
00:25
i was on the wrong side of the table so
00:28
in 2005 i decided
00:30
to switch sides and i became
00:33
exclusively a playoffs attorney and have
00:35
not looked back
00:36
been been one of the best decisions i’ve
00:38
ever made
00:44
i have to say it’s helping people
00:45
through some of the most
00:47
you know tragic and horrible times in
00:49
their lives
00:50
it’s really fulfilling that i can be
00:53
there i can hook up
00:55
people who have been through tragedies
00:56
with experts and medical
00:58
professionals and people that can really
01:01
make a difference in their lives
01:02
i also like the fact that when we’re
01:04
able to obtain a large verdict or a
01:06
large settlement
01:08
that results in change in in many cases
01:11
uh for instance when you’re suing a
01:13
governmental entity
01:14
it’s you know it has a defective road or
01:17
a roadway condition
01:18
you’re normally not going to see any
01:19
changes until that governmental entity
01:23
or in the the case of a products
01:25
manufacturer until they have to pay
01:27
until it hits their pocketbook you don’t
01:28
see changes so the
01:30
some of the most significant or
01:34
rewarding parts of my career is when i
01:37
can see
01:38
the fruit of my labor and i can see
01:41
changes
01:42
that prevent others from being injured
01:44
in the future
Manhattan Beach, CA personal injury attorney Robert Clayton talks about why he became a plaintiff lawyer as well as the most rewarding aspect of his practice.
