The one piece of advice that I find myself consistently giving to my clients particularly before they go to sit in for their deposition is don’t respond to a question or act more sure in your response than you are. And the reason why that’s important is because sometimes people will say I got injured in this accident, I cannot walk. But what they really mean is I got injured in this accident and it hurts to walk to it’s hard to walk for this particular distance and if I do so, then maybe I’m hurting later on. So I always like to remind my clients don’t be so certain in any one answer because then you’re boxed in. So you should always be conscious of giving yourself some freedom if in the future let’s say you find yourself under surveillance or if in the future you find you can do something that you didn’t’ anticipate that you would otherwise be able to do. So that’s the one piece of advice I consistently find myself giving to our clients.

When I’m not practicing law, I’m spending time with my two little girls, ages two and four, and my husband. We like to travel a lot. There are often times where I’ll have to go out of town for a deposition and I’ll just bring the whole family with me and we’ll spend an extra day. We also have a boat so we like to go to the river and take the boat out and hang out with other families that like to go boating. During the winter we’ll go up to Big Bear and go skiing or snowboarding. Having some activities and some fun times outside of the office helps to balance out the stress that we can sometimes face in the legal profession.

Los Angeles, CA personal injury lawyer Kristin Hobbs talks about her most common piece of advice to clients and how she spends her time outside of the office.
