Initially, I think I wanted to become a lawyer because I wanted to help people. I became a plaintiff’s lawyer, the kind of lawyer that represents victims and victims’ families, because when I first became a lawyer, I was defending institutional healthcare providers, hospitals, and nursing homes, and after doing that for a few years, I realized that what I really wanted to do is helping the folks that were actually who I was defending. So the reason I because a plaintiff’s lawyer, or person that represents folks that are victims, is because I’d done the other side, and I knew that that’s what I didn’t wanna do for the rest of my life. And that’s given me kind of a very unique perspective, and over the last 13 years I’ve done nothing but sue institutional healthcare providers, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities.

I think I feel very lucky to do what I do for a living. I get up every day knowing that what I do actually helps people. We feel very fortunate in that we handle a very limited number of cases in this office, so I know each one of the families I represent, and I feel very lucky to do that.

In addition to acting as a lawyer, I’m also an associate professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix. A few times a year we are provided the luxury, or the opportunity, rather, to communicate, to teach, to lecture second- and third-year medical students, and in that capacity we are teaching these medical students about elder abuse and neglect. So in addition to practicing law, I also teach elder abuse and neglect and how that influences – or what influence the law has on elder abuse and neglect to medical students.

Phoenix, AZ personal injury attorney Gabe Kory talks about why he was interested in pursuing the path of medical malpractice and nursing home abuse in his law career.
