00:04
the
00:05
overarching philosophy that guides my
00:08
practice as a lawyer is simple
00:10
everybody is different
00:13
everybody has different concerns
00:16
everybody has different priorities
00:18
everybody has different needs
00:20
and so i don’t approach every case the
00:22
same way
00:24
even though it might be a car wreck even
00:25
though might be medical malpractice it
00:28
might be a slip and fall you know the
00:30
person that got injured is going to
00:33
approach that situation and is going to
00:35
approach the legal process very very
00:37
differently and so what i pride myself
00:40
on as far as the philosophy and the
00:41
practice of law is understanding
00:45
my the fears the concerns the priorities
00:49
the desires of my client and then
00:51
helping them through this process the
00:54
best way for them
00:56
so i might have an outcome or i might
00:58
have a pathway that’s completely
01:00
different for bobby as it was for brian
01:03
it’s all up to the client and making
01:06
sure i understand how the client wants
01:08
to move forward
01:10
[Music]
01:14
i’ve had a lot of mentors through my
01:16
career
01:17
i think undoubtedly the best mentor that
01:19
i have was when i was a young lawyer
01:21
back in houston texas his name was dom
01:23
weitinger and
01:25
everybody would call him just
01:26
whitehanger he was to me he was kind of
01:28
like my old man away from my old man
01:31
and so whitehanger was 43 years my
01:34
senior he had tried maybe 700 civil
01:37
cases to jury verdict
01:39
probably forgot more law in his career
01:41
than i’ll ever know in my career but the
01:43
one thing that i learned from from my
01:45
old man
01:46
was how to talk to people and how to
01:49
treat people and not just
01:51
how to treat a client but how to treat
01:53
the lawyers on the other side how to
01:54
treat the judges how to treat witnesses
01:57
how to treat everybody involved in the
01:59
process
02:00
and the reason why that’s so important
02:03
is because it helps us solve problems
02:06
it helps us get cases resolved
02:09
because we have good working
02:10
relationships even with the person on
02:12
the other side we’ve good working
02:14
relationships with the judges but at the
02:16
end of the day
02:17
if i can’t get your problem resolved
02:19
i was voted most likely to serve time
02:21
for contempt by my graduating law school
02:23
class so i don’t have any issues walking
02:25
in into a courtroom and throwing it up
02:28
to see where the jury’s gonna land

Charlotte, NC personal injury attorney Brett E. Dressler shares the philosophy that guides his work as well and talks about his first mentor in the practice of law.
