the most rewarding aspect of my practice
i think is working with
families through something that’s
usually a really difficult time and
helping them come up with creative
solutions that work for them and their
family
and taking some of the burden off of
what’s usually a really emotionally
difficult time and providing some
guidance through what can be
scary for some people the legal system
my background and experience was i
worked for a few years before law school
as a victim advocate for domestic
violence victims with a local nonprofit
in the twin cities area
i worked with victims both in the
criminal and civil courts
and from that experience i
got exposed to the the court system and
became interested in law school while i
was in law school i
interned at
some legal aid institutions in the
county attorney’s office working both in
family law and juvenile protection
through those experiences and my
experience as a victim advocate i found
family law to be a really good fit to my
skill set and knowledge base and so from
there i clerked for a judge in hennepin
county
in the family courts where i just saw
family cases all day
and confirmed that’s what i i like doing
what i like learning about and from
there i’ve been practicing family law

St. Paul, MN family law attorney Allyson Kerr shares the most rewarding aspect of her practice as well as her background & experience. She shares that the most rewarding aspect of her practice is helping families navigate what is often a very difficult time. She finds fulfillment in developing creative solutions tailored to each family’s unique circumstances, easing the emotional burden, and guiding them through what can feel like an overwhelming legal system.
Her background reflects a deep commitment to supporting families. Before attending law school, she worked for several years as a victim advocate for domestic violence survivors at a nonprofit in the Twin Cities, assisting clients in both criminal and civil courts. That role gave her firsthand exposure to the court system and sparked her interest in pursuing a legal career. During law school, she gained further experience by interning at legal aid organizations and the county attorney’s office, where she worked in family law and juvenile protection.
Drawing on those experiences, she realized family law was a natural fit for her skills and interests. After law school, she clerked for a judge in Hennepin County’s family court, where she worked exclusively on family cases. That experience confirmed her passion for the field, and since then, she has dedicated her career to practicing family law.
