Houston, TX family law attorney Cindy Diggs explains how you can get a divorce in the US if you were married in another country. She shares that many of her clients ask whether they can get a divorce in the United States if they were married in Mexico, Canada, or another country. She explains that the answer is yes—provided they meet the jurisdictional requirements for the state of Texas. Those requirements are the same for everyone, regardless of where the marriage took place. To file for divorce in Texas, an individual must have lived in the state for at least six months and in the county where they are filing for at least 90 days.
