know is that not carrying your green
card on your person at all times is
actually a Class A misdemeanor offense
now most of my clients don’t carry their
green cards with them all the time
because quite frankly they’re afraid
that they’re going to lose that green
card and so that is their prerogative
however it is my job to remind them that
they should um now in terms of a green
card Deb has already expired it doesn’t
matter how long or how much time has
passed since the expiration the moment
you realize that that green card has
expired please go ahead and file to
renew that green card and between me and
you it’s not that hard you can probably
do it yourself but if you need help you
should definitely speak to an attorney
who might be able to help you

Evanston, IL immigration attorney Alen Takhsh talks about renewing an expired green card. He remarks that an expired green card can—and indeed must—be renewed by filing Form I-90 with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. He emphasizes that carrying a green card at all times is legally required, noting that failure to do so constitutes a Class A misdemeanor, although many clients choose not to carry it out of concern for loss or theft. Regardless of how long a green card has been expired, he advises that renewal should be initiated immediately upon realizing the expiration. While the renewal process is manageable and many individuals can complete it independently, he recommends consulting an experienced immigration attorney if assistance is needed.
