immigration law is sort of this acronyms
it’s like when people come here to work
I always tell them you’re going to learn
a whole new language
and it won’t make any sense until you
really understand the underpinnings of
these different things we have A’s D’s
H’s F’s and eb1 refers to
employment-based First preference
petition so in the world of immigration
law we have the non-immigrant Visa types
and we have the Immigrant visa and on
the Immigrant Visa side an eb-1 is a
group of visas that are allocated to
people who are really highly qualified
it’s called a priority worker and it
relates to obtaining a green card
eventually and the petition that is
required for someone to be able to
immigrate so eb1 stands for people who
are either outstanding researchers or
professors people of extraordinary
ability or managers or Executives who
are transferring from abroad to the U.S
to related entity
because it’s such a high classification
it’s a very nice way to immigrate to the
U.S there is typically not as much
demand for these visas as there is
Supply which can be a problem with the
other Visa categories so if you are
extraordinary or outstanding or someone
who is really uh sort of senior within
your organization with a lot of
independent Authority than an eb1
petition on your behalf is an excellent
way to be able to immigrate to the
United States

San Francisco, CA immigration attorney Mary Jane Weaver talks about EB-1 visas. She explains that immigration law is filled with acronyms, which can seem confusing to those new to the process. When individuals come to the U.S. to work, she often tells them they will need to learn a whole new language, and it only begins to make sense once they understand the underlying principles of the different visa categories.

She highlights the EB-1 visa, which falls under the employment-based first preference category for immigrant visas. This category is designed for highly qualified individuals, often referred to as “priority workers.” It allows eligible candidates to pursue permanent residency in the United States. EB-1 petitions are typically available for outstanding researchers or professors, individuals with extraordinary ability, and managers or executives transferring from a foreign company to a related U.S. entity.

Because EB-1 is a high-priority classification, it is often a more straightforward path to U.S. immigration compared with other visa categories, which can have higher demand and longer wait times. She notes that for individuals who are extraordinary in their field, outstanding in research or academia, or hold senior positions with substantial independent authority, an EB-1 petition provides an excellent opportunity to immigrate to the United States efficiently and securely.
