So, it really depends on the circumstance of what happened. Um, there’s a lot of criminal acts where they happen just because a criminal did something terrible and there’s no civil
exposure in a case like that. But there’s also a whole bundle of cases where uh a criminal act should have been prevented if someone had used reasonable
care or someone just kept their eyes open to a situation that could have been dangerous that had potential for causing harm. So for example, when there’s an
institution that is charged with safeguarding children and the institution fails to take reasonable steps to do that, the institution has
responsibility for that and is liable in civil cases. And those are the cases that we evaluate. If we feel that there’s been a crime committed where a
business or an institution doesn’t have responsibility, we just won’t bring it.
Uh it’s just a terrible criminal u event and the criminal justice system is designed to address those events.
