Well, very much like the length of a divorce case the cost of the divorce case depends on the number and type of issues that are before the court. When there’s a dispute over parenting responsibilities the costs tend to increase. Oftentimes the courts will appoint a guardian ad litum or a child representative the parties are required to share those fees, typically equally, although not always.
In addition to that, there may be evaluators both for parenting issues as well as financial issues. These evaluators will cover anything from the parent’s mental health to the value of a business. These are all very expensive. Because of the increased cost when a divorce is contested it is always important to remember that being a reasonable and seeking a common ground is the best way to minimize the cost of a divorce.
