a lot of times small business owners are
too intimidated to call an attorney
right or they feel that their question
is ridiculous
and so they’ll try to handle it
themselves and i wouldn’t say nine times
out of ten but definitely a majority of
issues that are brought to us whether
they’re litigation or hopefully we can
mediate them or just make a phone call
and get the matter settled if they would
just have called an attorney beforehand
and get three four minutes worth of
advice right we could have avoided a lot
of problems so
the general counsel program is set up
for just that it’s set up for the little
questions on the side it’s set up for
just a page or a two-page document and
it’s a subscription program
you buy a certain number of hours every
month those hours roll into the next
month and you pay a flat rate so for
small businesses it’s fantastic because
you can budget to it you can actually
include it in your cost of business on a
monthly basis and if
we find that maybe you’re not using as
many hours as possible we can tailor it
down if we find that you’re using more
hours than necessary excuse me more
hours than you had budgeted
then we roll we’ll roll hours that won’t
use but that we’re not used from the
prior months or we’ll just expand your
program
so i i can’t tell you the number of
people now that even if it’s just
removing guilt from calling an attorney
for a quick question
that’s what we’re here for we’re here to
help you help yourself we’re here to
make sure that your business is
successful and litigation unfortunately
is the last place you want to be

Las Vegas, NV business law attorney Tisha R. Black talks about her firm’s unique General Counsel Program. She explains that many small business owners feel intimidated about contacting an attorney, or they worry their questions might seem trivial. Often, they try to handle legal matters on their own. In a majority of cases—whether involving litigation or issues that could have been resolved through mediation or a simple phone call—problems could have been avoided with just a few minutes of legal advice.
The general counsel program was designed specifically for these situations. It addresses smaller questions, short documents, or quick consultations. Operated as a subscription program, clients purchase a set number of hours each month at a flat rate, with unused hours rolling over to the next month. This setup allows small businesses to budget legal support as part of their regular operating costs. Programs can also be adjusted if usage exceeds or falls short of the anticipated hours.
The program’s goal is to make legal support accessible and remove any hesitation about reaching out. It helps business owners get guidance early, protecting their operations and minimizing the risk of ending up in costly litigation, which is always a last resort.
