it’s never personal
so for the most part uh black and
whatems represents businesses in
their commercial litigation department
in disputes regarding money really
that’s what it boils down to somebody
asked me the other day hey what do you
do and i said i do litigation
and i said we do mostly commercial
litigation and they was like well what
is that and i
my definition of it is people fighting
over money
the point is that it’s never personal
and luckily we have a clientele and a
list of clients that are business people
that understand that they understand
that every decision that they make
whether it’s a personal decision to get
up and go to work
or
how they interact with their own
employees and whatnot so you have to
make every decision
for your business on the basis of that
business and it may sound circular but
it’s important because when people start
taking things personally or
they try to advocate something
personally it usually ends up poorly
and the process is not a cheap process
it’s not an inexpensive and it’s not a
it’s a very time consuming process
commercial litigation the other thing
that i tell clients all the time is this
this is definitely when you get into
litigation it’s not a sprint it’s a
marathon
and you want to make sure that you pass
every mile marker and that you put every
point of information and proof that you
need
to a case before that judge or jury
in whether it’s a motion or at trial
and there are
plenty of attorneys in las vegas that
will tell you
that they are an advocate and that
they’re trying to personally attack
another party or personally attack a
business that sort of thing for the
benefit of that case my goal is is to
try and litigate an issue and get to a
point of information on both sides so
that they can make a decision you know
that was the most important thing that
i’ve ever
told a client is you know don’t don’t
make it personal this is always a
decision and my job is to make sure that
you get enough information on the legal
side to make that decision
and make it on a professional matter as
opposed to a personal matter

Las Vegas, NV commercial litigation attorney Rusty Graf shares the one piece of advice he repeatedly gives to clients regarding commercial litigation.

At Black & Wadhams, he primarily represents businesses in commercial litigation, which essentially involves disputes over money. When asked what he does, he often explains that commercial litigation is simply people fighting over money—it’s never personal. Fortunately, the firm’s clients are experienced businesspeople who understand that every decision, whether about daily operations or employee interactions, must be made in the best interest of the business. When decisions are made personally rather than professionally, the outcome usually suffers.

He emphasizes to clients that litigation is neither cheap nor fast. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Every mile marker must be carefully met, and every piece of evidence or proof must be presented to the judge or jury, whether through motions or at trial. While some attorneys in Las Vegas may advocate by attacking the other party personally, his approach is different. He focuses on litigating the issues to gather sufficient information on both sides so that his clients can make informed, professional decisions. He consistently reminds them: don’t make it personal. The goal is to resolve disputes based on the merits, not emotions.
