it’s a tough problem because we’re very careful about being safe and about keeping our clients safe but we also recognize that there’s a difference between looking someone in the eye when you talk to them versus having a phone call or being on zoom or skype so we’ve set up a procedure where first we usually talk to someone briefly over the phone and do an initial case consultation and we talk about kind of generally what the issues they’re they’re facing are and do we think that we’d be able to help them if we do think that we could help help this person out then we invite them to come into our office and our office is in downtown minneapolis but it’s easy to socially distance there we’ve got a large conference room and we sit at one end of the conference room and our the client sits at the other and we wear a mask and the client wears a mask and we we talk in person there and we think that that’s the best way to to kind of cultivate the relationship with the clients

Minneapolis, MN criminal defense lawyer Ian Birrell talks about his firm’s approach to meeting with clients during the COVID Pandemic. He explains that it’s a challenging situation because the firm is very careful about safety and keeping clients protected, but also recognizes the value of in-person interaction compared to phone calls, Zoom, or Skype. To address this, the firm has established a clear procedure.
Initially, they speak briefly with potential clients over the phone for a case consultation, discussing the general issues the client is facing and assessing whether the firm can assist. If it appears they can help, the client is invited to the office in downtown Minneapolis. The office is set up for proper social distancing, featuring a large conference room where the attorney sits at one end and the client at the other. Both parties wear masks while meeting in person, which he considers the best way to build and cultivate the attorney-client relationship.
