Austin, TX commercial litigation attorney Walter V. Williams shares the story of a memorable shareholder lawsuit he handled. He recalls representing a security guard company—the kind that provides guards for office buildings and shopping malls—with a large presence across Texas. The company had been sued by one of its smaller shareholders, and the founder, a combat veteran of the Vietnam War, was personally named in the suit.
The allegation was that the founder hadn’t performed his duties well and didn’t deserve the salary he earned. That accusation struck a nerve with him, given the man’s long and loyal service—not only to the company but to the country as well.
He threw himself into the case, determined to clear his client’s name. In the end, they won the lawsuit, fully vindicating the founder. More than just a legal victory, the experience forged a lifelong friendship between the two men—one built on mutual respect for integrity, hard work, and service.
