I see a trend of increase intensity in prosecution, the less compromise in plea bargaining. Also, the prosecutors know they have an advantage in the last couple years with the me too movement, there’s always going to be two or three or four jurors in our jurisdiction at least that are perhaps more bent on prosecution and punishment the moment they walk in and that is a distinct advantage of the prosecutor. So our job is to try to reason with the prosecutor and show them that the prosecutor is likely to lose a trial and also to fight as hard as we can in every case that’s appropriate so the prosecutor knows our track record. And we have an outstanding track record, in the last 11 years I’ve had 15 child sex abuse or child physical abuse jury trials and we only have lost one and that was the most recent one. So we went 11 years at 14 jury trials and they were either hung juries or complete acquittals. So we fight very hard in those cases, we also plead guilty a lot in those cases because the evidence is often overwhelming but when appropriate we fight and we win.

Wheaton, MD criminal defense lawyer Andrew Jezic talks about the current trends he sees in child sexual abuse cases.
