New York, NY securities attorney Jenice L. Malecki talks about the types of assets or property that can be subject to forgery, conversion, or theft cases. She notes that while money and securities can be stolen, virtually any type of asset is vulnerable. Early in her career, she represented the Harvey Comics family, which had a relationship with George Baker, the creator of Richie Rich and Casper the Friendly Ghost. At one point, original Sad Sack comic art—a World War II-era cartoon created to inspire troops—was stolen from a warehouse. Through her representation, the artwork was successfully recovered, and part of her compensation included some of this historical comic art. She emphasizes that forgery, theft, and conversion can affect a wide range of assets, not just financial instruments.
