The best way to avoid union corruption is to gather as much information from multiple sources and trustworthy sources as to the credentials of the lawyer and law firm that you’re choosing. Which is why I recommend neutral, unbiased organizations such as State Bar Association credentials or National Board of Trial Advocacy or other peer review organizations. And that’s not to say any union designation is corrupt it only takes a few bad eggs to ruin an organization. But if someone can ask the lawyer and any union officer who recommends a lawyer to an individual the right questions, have you taken any money; are you being paid to recommend this person? And all the questions that the BLET recommends that injured individuals ask they’ll be much better informed and they’ll know whether or not they can protect themselves as much as possible from corruption and bad recommendations.

Saint Paul railroad employee injury attorney William Jungbauer discusses union corruption.
