my advice to clients who are in a battle
over the division of assets in a divorce
litigation is to keep in mind the
expense of the litigation itself
sometimes people are feeling very
emotional and very upset and they want
to fight over different assets or things
that they might have and ultimately they
might spend more on legal fees than what
the asset is actually worth a lot of the
times we have to value the asset and
then spend time negotiating about the
asset and at the end you might end up
paying us more than the assets even
worth so you have to really step back
and make sure that it’s going to be
worth actually fighting over that
individual asset

Bradley Beach, NJ family law attorney Mackenzie DeLeon shares her advice for people who are in a fight over the division of assets. She advises clients involved in divorce litigation over the division of assets to always keep in mind the cost of the litigation itself. In her experience, emotions often run high, and individuals may want to fight over certain assets without realizing that the legal fees could ultimately exceed the value of what they are disputing. She explains that assets often need to be valued and then negotiated, which can be both time-consuming and expensive. In the end, clients may spend more on attorney’s fees than the asset is worth. For that reason, she encourages clients to step back, evaluate carefully, and consider whether pursuing litigation over a particular asset is truly worthwhile.
