Paternity cases are unique in that we
just deal with um custody visitation and
typically support. There may be birthing
expenses and things of that nature. But
what’s difficult with the paternity
cases is oftent times parties have lived
together for a while. they have, you
know, accumulated a house or um some
other types of assets that they want
divided, but because they’re not
married, the family law court will not
deal with those. And so, you then have
to have them go to civil court to
adjudicate the uh civil issues, which is
the house they may have acquired
together or other assets. So, that makes
it a little difficult and civil cases
take a long time.
