Ownership of a patent on the face of the patent is the ownership at the time the patent is issued. The ownership of patents now in this day and age changes often with some degree or regularity. So by going to a patent analytic site you can actually see the ownership trail or chain and determine, you know, what owners the patent has had in the past and that often gives you clues into, you know, certain behaviors about the companies that are purchasing these patents and it answers some questions about why they may want to buy those patents.
