Civil litigation, I would consider as the main umbrella, and under civil litigation, we have personal injury. Civil litigation simply means that there’s been some type of controversy between two or more parties, and they can’t agree, so they have to resort to going to court. As a result, they need lawyers—one lawyer for the plaintiff, one lawyer for the defendants. So they go into the court, and they have to appear before a judge or a prior fact to help resolve the issues. That’s civil litigation. There’s a dispute between two or more persons or parties; they require some type of court intervention, and as a result, they retain counsel and handle their affairs to the final resolution in court.

Personal injury law is the same thing, but we’re talking about a wrongdoing that’s happened to another, and so they get a personal injury lawyer who then goes into the court to help them prosecute an action to final resolution. My firm primarily deals with personal injury-related civil litigation. Persons have been seriously injured, and we come in to help them from start to finish—filing a complaint to the end, which is either a settlement or a jury verdict. That’s what we do. We also handle, to a degree, certain civil litigation cases that are unrelated to personal injury, and that would be something like some type of civil defense or contractual issues or things like that, but that’s rare. Our primary focus in civil litigation involves that of personal injury and representing persons that have been seriously injured.
