It’s funny because, as a litigator, you would think I would not give this piece of advice to my clients, but I do nonetheless, and that is do not get involved in a lawsuit if you can avoid it. And, in fact, the emotional nature of a lawsuit really elevates the expense to the point where any opportunity to avoid getting into litigation I counsel my clients to do, even clients with strong cases, because you can win a case but lose in the end, lose not just money but time, emotion, and focus on your life because you are so wound up in the psychology of a lawsuit.

Minneapolis, MN trial lawyer Andrew Parker shares the advice he gives to his litigation clients. He often advises clients, despite being a litigator himself, to avoid litigation whenever possible. He emphasizes that the emotional intensity of a lawsuit can significantly amplify its costs. Even clients with strong cases may face substantial losses—not only financially, but also in terms of time, emotional energy, and focus on their personal and professional lives. For this reason, he encourages exploring alternatives to litigation before engaging in a legal dispute.
