We typically see a lot of these types of documents; they’re called N-O-I-Ds or NOIDs. Again, the work comp system has all of these different quirky terms. A NOID or a notice of intention to discontinue benefits is a statement from the insurance company that they are not going to pay you as an injured worker anymore weekly benefits for the reason stated in that document. And if you don’t take some action in response to that, your benefits will end. So what we typically do when we get the phone call from a prospective client with respect to a notice of intention to discontinue benefits, we requests a conference at the State of Minnesota, a conference called an administrative conference. And we have an opportunity to go in front of judge and see if we can reverse that attempt to cut benefits off. And that’s a point early in the process that can make a big difference for clients.

Minneapolis workers’ compensation attorney Mark Olive discusses Notice of Intent to Discontinue Benefits.
