well the one piece of advice I
continually find myself giving to
clients is for them to realize that once
they initiate a claim of any kind that
everything that they say or do uh on
social media or publish is just that
broadcasting their own personal life to
the rest of the world and everything
that they say and do ultimately can and
will be used against
them a little bit about my background
and experience that really prepared me
for my practice is that I started out
unlike most plaintiff’s lawyers as a
defense lawyer I began my practice in
1990 as a private practice insurance
defense lawyer with the firm in Kansas
City Missouri I worked there for about
four years advising insurance companies
and then uh defending their clients and
insurance companies for four years and
then I went in-house and worked for a
large insurance company for about 21
years where I interacted with the claims
department defended the insurance
company defended its customers that had
been sued for various uh claims and
ultimately after that I went to yet
another insurance company for another
three years so I had about 50 jury
trials and 30 years of practice as a
defense lawyer to prepare me for the
practice I have now as a plaintive
lawyer where I get to advise individuals
uh that have been involved in accidents
and have sustained injuries about what
the insurance company perspective is in
looking at their
claims

Kansas City, MO personal injury attorney Michael Waddell talks about his most common piece of advice for clients and his background & experience. He emphasizes that one of the most important pieces of advice he gives clients is to be mindful of their social media activity. Once a claim is initiated, anything a client posts or shares online can potentially be used against them, as it effectively broadcasts personal information to the world.

He attributes his ability to guide clients effectively to his extensive background in insurance defense. Unlike many plaintiff’s lawyers, he began his career in 1990 as a private practice insurance defense attorney in Kansas City, Missouri, where he advised and defended insurance companies and their clients. He then spent 21 years in-house at a large insurance company, working closely with claims departments and defending insured clients in a variety of claims. Afterward, he joined another insurance company for an additional three years.

Over the course of his defense career, he participated in approximately 50 jury trials and accumulated 30 years of experience representing insurers. This extensive background allows him, now as a plaintiff’s attorney, to provide clients with a unique perspective on how insurance companies evaluate claims and to develop strategies that maximize their recovery following accidents and injuries.
