I focus my practice on representing railroad workers around the country both with respect to personal injuries that they’ve sustained working for the railroad or adverse actions that the employer may take, the carrier may take, against railroad workers who participate in or engage in protected activity. Those cases are brought pursuant to the whistleblower protections of the Federal Rail Safety Act.

I’ve been practicing now for 22 years. I actually started at the Yeager Jungbauer firm as a law clerk in 1995. Just fell in love with the work from the get-go. And then when I passed the bar and became admitted here in the state of Minnesota, I began practicing law for Yaeger & Jungbauer in 1997. I also was a prosecutor for seven years, the lead prosecutor for my hometown, the city of Stillwater, Minnesota, which was a great experience because it allowed me to spend much more time in the courtroom, which I thought was really valuable.

The most rewarding part of my practice by far is really fighting for the rights of injured railroad workers around the country and the David and Goliath nature of the work. These railroads are incredibly well-financed. They bring all those resources to bear when an injured – a railroad worker is injured. And the fact that we as individuals can go into federal and state courts all around the country and take these big corporations on, I think, is incredibly rewarding. And it’s a testament to our justice system, where money doesn’t buy justice.

St. Paul, MN personal injury lawyer John D. Magnuson talks about his area of focus, his experience and the most rewarding aspects of his practice.
