somewhat ironically the first piece of
advice that we give to our clients
is to stay out of court
we think that
as a business law firm
resolving things on a business basis is
always the most efficient and ultimately
the most economical way to resolve
disputes
so we try to keep our clients out of
court in all of our areas of course
there are times when that’s not possible
but that’s sort of where we start how do
we minimize
the impact of having to go to court and
how do we avoid it if at all possible
my background and experience really is
somewhat reflected in my hair color i
actually have jet black hair
but at this point it’s uh it’s gray
probably more white than gray
and that’s because of a lot of
experience now not that it’s all been
bad experience but it’s been experienced
and so my legal trajectory goes back
uh to having started out in state
government actually
learning about
licensing and regulation i was our
state’s insurance commissioner
i ran an oversight agency that managed
the agencies that issued licenses
for 14 different industries from
mortgage lending to real estate
so my experience inside of government i
think has has given me an opportunity to
have a much better understanding
of how to deal with those problems and
most business people that come to our
firm
could be frustrated with with government
they don’t understand government they
don’t understand why there’s an issue
that’s where our service can be
particularly helpful because having been
there we understand how the people in
government think about problems and that
allows us to help solve that problem
for the business

Las Vegas, NV business law attorney James L. Wadhams shares his most common piece of advice to clients and discusses his background & experience. He somewhat ironically notes that the first piece of advice the firm gives clients is to stay out of court. As a business law firm, he believes resolving disputes on a business basis is almost always the most efficient and economical approach. While there are times when going to court is unavoidable, the goal is always to minimize the impact and avoid litigation whenever possible.
He reflects on his own background and experience, joking that it’s somewhat reflected in his hair—once jet black, now more white than gray from years of experience. His legal path began in state government, where he gained extensive knowledge of licensing and regulation. He served as the state’s insurance commissioner, overseeing an agency responsible for issuing licenses across 14 industries, from mortgage lending to real estate.
This government experience, he explains, gives him a unique perspective on handling regulatory challenges. Many business clients arrive frustrated by government processes, unsure why certain issues arise. Having been inside the system, he understands how government officials approach problems, enabling him to help clients navigate and resolve those challenges effectively.
