so i have almost 25 years of experience
as a martial artist i’m actually a
fourth degree black belt and i have
found that my martial arts training has
really helped me as a family law
attorney because it has helped me to
keep my cool in adversarial situations
so as a family law attorney i deal with
a lot of high conflict divorce and
custody litigation and there’s a lot of
emotions a lot of people are very angry
and upset and through my training in the
martial arts i have learned how to stay
calm cool and collected during these
periods where it’s very heated for
example in the martial arts style that i
practiced i would spar and you know do
different types of kickboxing and when
you’re kickboxing you have to
keep your cool
if you don’t or if you panic or you get
too excited you’re gonna get punched in
the face right you have to always have
your guard up be thinking a couple steps
ahead and and be relatively calm it’s
the same thing in uh custody litigation
or a divorce litigation if you get too
worked up over one issue um or you lose
sight of the overall goal you’re going
to lead your client astray you need to
be able to reel it all in and keep
everyone on the same page calm cool and
collected about what the goals are in
the case
so when i’m not practicing law i’m home
i’m a wife and a mother i have a son
he’s almost two years old he keeps me
very busy i also enjoy practicing in the
martial arts my husband is a head
instructor at a prominent school in this
area and so we like to train together as
a family we’re very fitness oriented
very disciplined in that way and i enjoy
cooking so i’m trying to teach my son
how to cook

Bradley Beach, NJ family law attorney Mackenzie DeLeon talks about her background & experience and what she does outside of the office. She shares that she has nearly 25 years of experience as a martial artist and holds a fourth-degree black belt, a discipline that has greatly influenced her work as a family law attorney. Her martial arts training has taught her to remain calm, focused, and composed in highly adversarial situations, which is invaluable in handling high-conflict divorce and custody litigation where emotions often run high. Just as in sparring or kickboxing—where losing composure can mean getting hit—she has learned to keep her guard up, think several steps ahead, and stay centered. She applies the same mindset in litigation, ensuring that she never lets heightened emotions distract from the larger goals of a case, always guiding her clients with clarity and composure. Outside of her practice, she is a devoted wife and mother to a young son who keeps her busy. Together with her husband, a head instructor at a well-known martial arts school, she enjoys training as a family, maintaining a strong focus on fitness and discipline. She also has a passion for cooking and is now passing that love on by teaching her son how to cook.
