What prepared me to practice in this
area of the law was just uh trying a lot
of cases over the years. For 25 years, I
was a plaintiff’s medical malpractice
attorney. I represented patients and
families in lawsuits against doctors and
those cases go to trial. Um I tried uh
20 or more cases, more than 20 cases as
a lead trial counsel. I’ve taken or
defended more than a thousand
depositions and that’s quite a good deal
of experience uh compared to other
attorneys in this area of the law and
I’m very comfortable going to trial and
trying cases
when I’m not working outside the office.
Um I enjoy coaching youth sports. Um I
grew up playing sports. I have three
brothers. We were all very competitive.
Um, looking back on it now, I can admit
we were idiots at times. Our Sunday
routine was our parents would take us to
church, and then on the way home, we
would go to King Supers, get donuts, and
go watch uh professional wrestling and
then try to do the moves on each other.
So, uh, I I grew up playing a lot of
sports, very active. Uh, my wife was
also an athlete. Um, I I played high
school and college lacrosse. I learned a
lot of lessons, uh, made a lot of good
friends through that process. And so we
were on the same page when we had kids
that we wanted them to be involved in
sports from a young age. Uh I was
fortunate enough to be able to coach all
four of my kids in lacrosse. It wasn’t
easy. Those were hectic and busy times.
I was running my own law practice and
often times I’d have to make up for the
time coaching uh with late nights or
working a lot on weekends. Looking back
on it, I have no regrets. Um I got to
spend time with my kids. I got to make
lasting relationships with their friends
and teammates through that process. It
was kind of my therapy actually. I I
feel stressed at work. I leave the
office and for 2 hours I get to just
forget about all my problems. I get to
uh be a kid again, act immature, laugh,
and then uh it’s just kind of a nice
escape. And so in a lot of ways, I think
that uh coaching has given given a lot
more to me than I’ve actually put into
it.
