Um before I went to UDub Law for law
school uh in 2012, I actually worked as
a volunteer teacher in Ral Middle School
for two years. Uh so my school my
placement was in the mid of a mountain.
So I need to climb more than 284 stairs
to go to the school every day. Yeah. So,
um, you know, I enjoy working with kids,
um, because I totally love to see their
sparkling eyes and their silly but also
amazing ideas. I really enjoy working
with them. And also, when I did those
home visits, I realized I would also
enjoy working with parents and
grandparents. And later I realized, you
know, I only have a limited time to
spend with my students um on a daily
basis. However, if I could possibly give
some useful tip and advice to their
parents and their grandparents, maybe
you know those family members would um
have a lifelong influence on those
students lives. So yeah, so that
experience actually prepared me, you
know, to work with a broad range of
clients, a broad range of people, folks.
I enjoy listening to their stories and I
want to really understand their unique
needs and goals. And before um I decided
to practice exclusively in the field of
estate planning and elder law, I
actually have been working as a family
law attorney and estate planner for many
years. So as you can imagine that
experience allows me to understand the
facts from multiple perspectives and
also allow me to give advice from
different angles.
So outside of office um I enjoying
singing um playing saxophone and also
spending quality time with my parents
because I’m the only child for better or
worse with my in-laws with my husband
and my children. And as a parent I
really want to prepare my children uh to
make sure they can face all the
challenges in the real world and also to
protect their innocence.

Bellevue and Lynnwood, WA estates & Probate attorney Heather Xu talks about her background & experience and what she does outside of the office. She shares that before attending the University of Washington School of Law in 2012, she volunteered as a teacher at Ral Middle School for two years. Her placement was in a mountainous area, requiring her to climb more than 284 stairs to reach the school each day. She developed a deep appreciation for working with children, enjoying their curiosity, creativity, and unique ideas. During home visits, she also recognized the value of engaging with parents and grandparents, understanding that guiding family members could have a lasting impact on the students’ lives.

This early experience helped prepare her to work with a diverse range of clients. She values listening to their stories and understanding their unique needs and goals. Prior to focusing exclusively on estate planning and elder law, she practiced as a family law attorney and estate planner, which provided her with the ability to analyze situations from multiple perspectives and offer well-rounded, strategic advice.

Outside of her professional work, she enjoys singing, playing the saxophone, and spending quality time with her parents, husband, and children. As an only child, she places a strong emphasis on preparing her own children to navigate real-world challenges while protecting their innocence.
