Why Did You Become a Lawyer?
I chose to become a lawyer because I wanted
to be like my dad. My dad taught me to be
that person that you call when you’re in
a sticky situation and I want to follow
his footsteps and be that person that
people call when they need somebody.
I’m that problem solver for
them.
What’s the Most Rewarding Aspect of Your Practice?
The most rewarding aspect of my
practice is at the very end of a lawsuit
when everything is done and the clients
call me up — they’re thankful, they’re
happy. They have that relief of stress
and they go, “You did it Jim, thank you for
all the help!” That’s my aha moment
and that’s why I like doing this for a
living.

Chicago, IL commercial litigation attorney James DiTommaso talks about why he became a lawyer and the most rewarding aspect of his practice. He explains that his decision to become a lawyer was inspired by his father. His father instilled in him the value of being the person others turn to in difficult situations, and he aspired to follow in those footsteps. Today, he views himself as that problem solver—someone clients can rely on when they need guidance and support.

When asked about the most rewarding aspect of his practice, he highlights the satisfaction that comes at the conclusion of a case. After a lawsuit is resolved, clients often reach out to express their gratitude and relief, thanking him for his efforts. For him, those moments of appreciation—when clients can finally breathe easier—serve as the defining reward and the reason he is passionate about practicing law.
