legal separation and divorce. At the end
of the day, the outcomes are typically
the same. The court can decide custody
issues, support issues, but the
difference is with a legal separation
when you get your judgment, you are
still married. With the divorce, you are
restored back to single. And so
sometimes people want to stay married,
whether it be for the children or they
think that they could save the marriage.
Oftent times people want to keep the
same benefits as being married, being
able to file jointly, stay on each
other’s healthcare insurance. And
sometimes it’s religious reasons people
don’t believe in divorce, but they want
to divide everything and move on.
