uh government affairs is really
uh the process by which
we deal
with a problem on a larger basis in
other words
if an entity finds that
the law doesn’t allow
an activity that the business wants to
be in
and
sometimes that can be done individually
but it can also be done
broadly for that entire activity by
going and changing
having the county change an ordinance
the city changing an ordinance or having
the state legislature change a law so it
changes the process of regulation as
opposed to dealing with a specific
problem that a business may have to put
it in another term
it’s called lobbying
and so we go to government lobbying on
behalf of business interests to increase
efficiency economy
and maybe make it clear
that certain new programs that are
developing
are authorized activities for that
business

Las Vegas, NV business law attorney James L. Wadhams talks about his firm’s work in governmental affairs. He mentions that government affairs is essentially the process of addressing a problem on a broader scale. If a business discovers that the law restricts an activity it wants to pursue, the issue can sometimes be handled individually. However, it can also be addressed more widely by influencing changes in regulations—such as having a county or city amend an ordinance, or even prompting the state legislature to modify a law.
In other words, it’s about shaping the regulatory process rather than just resolving a specific business problem. He notes that this process is commonly referred to as lobbying. Through government lobbying, they advocate for business interests to improve efficiency, support economic growth, and clarify that certain emerging programs or activities are legally authorized for the business.
