Healthc care fraud absolutely has
evolved and it always has. Okay.
Especially in South Florida where I’m
based, but around the country as well.
Healthc care fra fraud has gone through
certain stages. It was a big push
originally with silver homes. That
turned into durable medical equipment or
DME, which is actually making quite a
comeback. uh here in South Florida and
around the country, we saw a lot of
genetic testing, most mostly with cancer
genetic testing. And now uh where we’re
really seeing the most prosecutions are
some leftover COVID 19 uh healthc care
fraud prosecutions and a new area, well
the concept isn’t so new, but what is
soon is exploding and soon to continue
exploding is in the wound care field.
And when I say wound care, I mean the
providing of a a skin substitute of or
sometimes a amniotic fluid that is used
to treat wounds and Medicare or Medicaid
is reimbursing very large amounts of
money for wound care or skin substitute
products. And what we see in each trend
when it comes to healthc care fraud is
what is Medicare currently reimbursing
the highest for is it an easy test and
or an easy lab or easy medical product
to acquire and to apply and who is the
target community. So womb care is very
very much not only on the horizon but
here now and we’re seeing a lot of focus
from the department of justice and from
the center of Medicaid uh services CM
Medicare and Medicaid services CMS with
a focus on wound care itself. So that’s
really what we’re on the lookout for the
next several years moving forward.
Boca Raton, FL criminal defense attorney David Tarras talks about the types of healthcare fraud cases he seees most often today.
