Our firm’s 101 years old right now. And when I started a long time ago, I think I was the fourth generation lawyer here to try an eminent domain case to a jury verdict.
And I’ve tried a lot of them since then.
The fun case about being a lawyer doing eminent domain work is you’re really working on real estate and economics and
valuation and you’re also get to be a trial lawyer and basically cross-examine the other sides appraisers and highest
and best use experts and architects as to different issues that might be relevant to the valuation case. It’s a
fun blend of knowing real estate uh knowing finance and also trying jury trials. So, I enjoy it and I have a
little bit of background because my boy my great great-g grandandmother’s ranch was taken by the uh Aches Topeka and
Santa Fe Railroad and they promised her instead of compensation they’d give her a brand new
New England colonial house. Now, this property was in New Mexico, and they gave her that house, but it was made of
adobe. And even though it’s way over 100 years old, that adobe New England colonial still exists today. So, it’s
kind of a funny family story about imminent domain, it I didn’t know I’d get get into this when I started working
here, but it’s become a lot of fun.
