dependent on whether we’re dealing with
a contested or an uncontested proceeding
for the most part but

that you may have acquired during the
life of the marriage deal with things
like custody support both spousal and
child support and most importantly at

NY family law attorney Russel Morgan, Esq. talks about the divorce process in NY. He explains that the divorce process in New York depends largely on whether the proceeding is contested or uncontested. Essentially, a petition is brought before the court requesting the division of any assets and debts acquired during the marriage, addressing issues such as child custody, child support, and spousal support. For many, an important aspect is the ability to revert to a former legal last name. The process can proceed uncontested, where both spouses reach an agreement, or it can be litigated, taking longer depending on how much the parties wish to contest the issues.
