His wife reached out because he had begun the process of applying for a green card, but unfortunately, he had made the mistake of driving under the influence and was consequently detained by immigration. He felt hopeless, convinced that his DUI meant he had no defense and that deportation was inevitable.
She and her team fought his case while he remained in custody. Although the judge initially refused to release him, when he was finally freed, he heard the judge say, “Welcome to America.” This case was particularly memorable for her because of the client’s sense of despair and the relief and joy he experienced when they ultimately secured his green card.
