with contract disputes i think the
biggest piece of advice i can give to a
client is
make sure that
it’s outcome driven in that you have a
contract you know what the issue is you
know what the amount of stake is
don’t let emotions
towards the other party whoever it may
be whether it’s an employee or competing
business
don’t let that drive your approach or
what you
the outcome that you want to see from
the contract dispute
stay within the four you know the four
corners of the document stay within
what’s really at issue which is usually
making sure that the litigation is not
a detriment to the business instead can
be
beneficial to the business but it’s not
going to be something that is going to
um
be emotion driven it’s a contract it’s a
contractual issue and yes there it’s
usually upsetting that there has been a
breach in some manner but don’t let that
emotion drive your outcome such that
it’s a detriment to your business

Oakdale, MN commercial litigation attorney Brandon Schwartz shares the advice he gives clients facing a contract dispute. He advises that with contract disputes, the most important guidance for a client is to remain outcome-driven. When dealing with a contract, it’s crucial to clearly understand the issue and the stakes involved. Emotions toward the other party—whether it’s an employee or a competing business—should not dictate the approach or desired outcome.

He emphasizes staying within the four corners of the document and focusing on what’s truly at issue. The goal is to ensure that any litigation does not harm the business, but rather, if possible, supports its interests. While a breach can be frustrating, he cautions against letting that frustration drive decisions in a way that could ultimately be detrimental to the business.
