Austin, TX family law attorney Kayvon Rashidi explains how is the amount of child support is determined. He explains that the Texas Family Code provides formulas that give a fairly accurate idea of how much support the parent ordered to pay will owe. The law sets percentages based on the number of children: for one child, the percentage is 20 percent; for two children, it’s 25 percent. These percentages apply to a maximum of $9,200 per month of the paying parent’s income, so any income above that typically isn’t considered in child support calculations.
By applying these percentages, it gives both parties a clear expectation of the child support amount and helps reduce disputes over that figure in litigation.
