my approach to custody cases is very
personal the legal standard in all
custody cases is what is in the best
interest of the children
so my approach to custody cases is to
really learn about the children because
what’s in a child’s best interest very
much aligns with the child’s personality
so as a mother myself I’ve learned
children have very different
personalities even two children raised
in the same home with the same parents
could be very very different you could
have some children who are very flexible
and you can have some children who are
very rigid who to function need to rely
on stability and repetition of schedule
and when you learn that about the
children in your custody cases you learn
what schedules might work for them a
schedule that might work for one child
who’s a very
flexible go with the flow I could be
here or there and do my homework
everywhere is very different than the
schedule that’s going to work for a
child who really functions well if they
have repetition and stability of
schedule so in my learning or my
fashioning and formulating with a client
what might be the best custodial
schedule for your child I ask questions
about the child does your child
transition well does your child adapt
well does your child do better if they
have a very consistent schedule
who are your client your child’s friends
what sports do your children engage in
do they have practices nightly if you
learn about the children that allows you
to really create the schedules that are
best for them and that lets you stand up
before a judge or sit before a mediator
with absolute certainty that what you’re
presenting is in the best interest of
the children

Bradley Beach, NJ family law attorney Cipora Winters discusses her approach to custody cases. She approaches custody cases in a deeply personal way, always guided by the legal standard of determining what is in the best interest of the children. To her, that means truly learning about the children involved, because a child’s best interests are often closely tied to their unique personality. As a mother, she understands that even children raised in the same home can be very different—some may be flexible and adaptable, while others may need structure, stability, and repetition to thrive. By asking questions about how a child transitions, adapts, and functions within different schedules, as well as considering their friendships, sports, and extracurricular activities, she is able to help parents develop custody schedules tailored to their children’s specific needs. This approach not only supports the children’s well-being but also allows her to present a strong, confident case before a judge or mediator, knowing that the recommendations are truly aligned with the children’s best interests.
