Kansas City, MO personal injury attorney Michael Waddell talks about the damages you can recover in a car accident case. He notes that in a typical car accident case, there are several types of damages a client may recover. The first category is medical expenses, which includes reimbursement for any costs already incurred as well as compensation for anticipated future medical treatment related to the injury.

Clients are also entitled to recover lost wages, covering both income already lost due to the injury and potential future losses resulting from a diminished earning capacity. This applies when the injury is severe or permanent enough to affect the client’s ability to work at the same level as before the accident.

He further notes that intangible damages, while not reflected in bills or pay stubs, are an important component of compensation. These include pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, and the inability to participate in activities that the client enjoyed prior to the injury.

In wrongful death cases, he highlights that additional damages may be awarded to compensate for the loss of companionship, guidance, comfort, and emotional support experienced by family members following the death of a loved one.
